Our first show was successful, providing funds for helping our Bedford Marine Corps League Detachment add to Christmas joy for more children. This year, we’ve expanded the show, with more trophies, and tighter classifications. Two judges will be present to decide who, with what car, gets each award. The May 7 date is our attempt to avoid the thunderstorms and heat that shut down the 2010 show an hour or two early.
We’ve added Best In Show, Best Paint, Best Engine and Best Interior, for a total of 17 trophy or first place awards. Entry is $20 at the gate, or $15 in advance (checks should be made out to Marine Corps League, Bedford, and may be dropped off at the diner or mailed to Marine Corps League, 1812 Vista Circle, Bedford, 24523-1243). Information is also available at the diner, or 540-587-5572 or 540-297-7535.
Food and drink are available at the diner.
The site of the show remains the Mayberry Diner in Moneta, VA (1696 Whitehouse Road). It’s easy to find: coming in from the south (Rocky Mount), drive route 122 north, until you see White House Road not far past the first “Downtown Moneta” sign. Hook a right and go less than a half mile to see the stainless steel diner on the left, well off the road, behind its drive-in movie lot. When you’re arriving from the north (Bedford) side, look for White House Road on your left. Go left and follow the above directions from there.
Show entrants take a right turn almost immediately after turning in to the diner lot. Routing is behind the screen and up the back route, around in front of the diner, where the car and driver are photographed, and into show position as the staff directs. Each entrant receives a free 5x7 photo, providing enough information is provided for the photographer to ID car and driver.
We are still actively searching for sponsors and vendors for the show.
