Explore our latest archaeological field research in progress. Excavation "Site 6" takes you to the area once home to Monticello enslaved field laborers in the early nineteenth century. Learn the basics of archaeological research design, soils, stratigraphy, excavation strategies, our latest discoveries, and how they fit into our larger understanding of changing life ways at Monticello. This is a one-mile walk in the woods: water bottles, sturdy shoes, and long trousers are highly recommended.
